Uganda is home to around half of the world’s mountain gorillas, and trekking to see them is one of the most moving wildlife encounters on earth. Treks in Bwindi can take anywhere from one to several hours through steep forest, and once you find the family you spend one hour with them. Permits are limited and must be booked in advance, so we recommend planning several months ahead. Trekkers must be at least 15 years old and reasonably fit. The journey also includes chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest and a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel, famous for hippos, buffalo and birdlife.
