Best time
June to October for elephants on the river
Ideal for
Couples, photographers and first-time flyers
Tarangire is known for two things, elephants and baobabs, and both are at their most striking from above. In the dry season, from June to October, herds come to the river in large numbers, and the trees stand out against golden grass. The flight drifts with the morning breeze over the river valley and the surrounding woodland, giving a sense of how wildlife uses the landscape. Because fewer balloons fly here than in the Serengeti, the experience feels personal and unhurried. You land for a toast and a bush breakfast before continuing your day on safari. As with all balloon flights, take-off depends on the weather.
