Arusha National Park packs remarkable variety into a small area: montane forest home to black-and-white colobus monkeys, the flooded Ngurdoto Crater, the shallow alkaline Momella Lakes where flamingos often gather, and open grassland with giraffe, zebra and buffalo, all beneath the slopes of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest mountain. It’s one of the few parks where you can leave the vehicle for a walking safari, accompanied by an armed park ranger.
