6 days · Tanzania · Mountain trek
The classic “Coca-Cola” route and the only one with shared mountain huts instead of tents. Marangu has a gentle gradient and an extra acclimatisation day at Horombo, making it a good choice for those who prefer a bed to a tent.

Marangu is the oldest established route on Kilimanjaro and approaches from the south-east. Climbers sleep in simple dormitory-style huts with beds, which many find more comfortable in bad weather. The ascent and descent follow the same path, so scenery is less varied than on other routes, but the gradual slopes and an acclimatisation day at Horombo Hut help your body adjust to the altitude. The final push to the summit is steep and long, starting from Kibo Hut at around 4,700 m.
