About the park
Tarangire is named after the river that runs through it, the only permanent water in the area during the dry season. From June to October, wildlife from the surrounding plains crowds along its banks, creating some of the densest concentrations of animals in northern Tanzania.
The park is famous for its large elephant herds and for its giant baobab trees, some of them many centuries old. It also has an outstanding variety of birds and is far quieter than the Serengeti or Ngorongoro. Being only two hours from Arusha, it’s the ideal first or last stop on a northern circuit safari, or a full-day trip on its own.
