Experience · Arusha · Active & on foot
Spend a morning on foot with young Maasai warriors, the morani, in the open country north of Arusha. They show you the land through their eyes: the plants they use, the tracks they read and the animals they share it with.

Active travellers and families with older children
Between Mount Meru and the Kenyan border, the land opens into dry plains and rocky hills where Maasai families graze cattle alongside giraffe, gazelle and, if you are lucky, the long-necked gerenuk. Your walk is led by morani, who carry their traditional stick and rungu and share how they were trained to protect the herds and find their way across the land. Along the route you learn which plants are used as medicine, toothbrushes or soap, how to read the tracks crossing the path and how the Maasai calendar follows the rains. The pace is easy and the route is adapted to you. The walk ends at a boma for lunch and time with the families. The community runs the programme, and fees support local projects.
